Unsafe Mouse

Which testing method do you think is most likely to identify drugs that are UNSAFE for humans:

Your Answer: Testing on Animals

That’s what the government thinks, too. The government insists that all new medicines must be tested in 2 species of animals: one rodent (usually mice or rats) and one ‘higher’ mammal (usually dogs or monkeys).

The problem is that 9 out of 10 drugs go on to fail in human clinical trials, despite appearing safe and effective in animal tests.

Adverse drug reactions to prescription medicines kill more than 10,000 people in the UK every year and more than 100,000 in the US.

Clearly, we need a better way to test the safety of medicines.

Many tests have been developed using human cells and tissues, that can predict side effects that were missed by animal tests. But there is no legal requirement to use them!

Surely the government should mandate the use of the most reliable methods? If you agree, please sign our petition
